"Set in the middle of Covid pandemic of 2020, Bhera (Deaf) is a story of three lost souls, and their struggle to be heard. Suresh, a young lad working in a toy factory in Mumbai finally returns to his mother, Anibai, who was unaware of pandemic and has lived alone in an old house across a stream in a remote village situated in Lower Konkan area, where communication and mobility are severely lacking. Suresh is put into quarantine for 14 days. Vishnu, a naive, orphan and deaf boy, the only regular visitor of Anibai helps her after seeing her in misery and visits Suresh at quarantine centre, where he commits a mistake leading him in trouble with his uncle and gets expelled out of village.
Anibai’s appendix worsens and she is taken to the hospital by the villagers. However, unbeknownst of her, her son has succumbed to death, from Covid. Vishnu is informed about Suresh’s death and has been told to hand the ashes to the foundation of Anibai’s house. Disturbed, Vishnu wept by the stream, clutching the ashes close to his heart."
